Why GTA 5 PC is the definitive version of Rockstar's epic
Grand Theft Auto 5 feels like it's worth the wait. I played the PC version for the first time recently, and although 17 months is hell of a long time, this absolutely plays like the ultimate version of the open-world sequel that Rockstar first released on consoles in 2013.
There's no doubt some skepticism based on some past ports of Rockstar games, like GTA 4, and the ongoing, slightly heartbreaking absence of Red Dead Redemption on PC might make you wonder how much the publisher values the platform next to consoles. Max Payne 3 was a vast improvement, though, and I see no reason to be concerned with GTA 5 either—this port looks incredible and I swore a hell of a lot (in a good way) at the gorgeous skylines during my hands-on. This is a handsome game.
I was shown the game in 4K resolution running at 60fps. The PC Rockstar was demoing it on is outside the price range of most consumers, with an i7 5930k@3.50GHz, SLI GTX 980, 32GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, but that’s just to show off how pretty it can look. Rockstar says that even average rigs won’t have a problem getting great 1080p performance out of the game, which is encouraging. Scalability is a priority for them.
If you’d like to know the full range of graphics options available in GTA 5, I’ve collected them in a separate story, but I think they’re as much as players could ask for. The fact Rockstar let me share them with you is rare for a press demo, where a lot of those details are locked down until release, sometimes not for the best reasons—it demonstrates a real degree of confidence in the port.
Having mostly skipped the next-gen console editions while waiting for the PC release, the PC version of GTA 5 looks like an entirely new game to me. First of all, 60fps makes a hell of a difference. You can’t get this in any of the console versions, so on that level alone makes GTA 5 PC the superior version. Seeing this extraordinary environment run so smoothly while you’re driving through it is a treat.
The demo starts with Franklin, one of GTA 5's three protagonists, at the top of the colossal Mount Chiliad. The land mass of Los Santos looks extraordinary from here and there's already a stunning difference from this view—every detail is so sharp from even miles out, with an absurd draw distance stretching far into the horizon. It’s a true "holy shit" moment. This is so far beyond what I remember playing the game for over 50 hours on Xbox 360, and beyond what the next-gen consoles are capable of.
Franklin drives a motorbike off a ramp and soars towards the ground, eventually parachuting to a soft landing before getting in a car. Soon control is handed to me and I drive from the hills into the city. I arrive on the trashy, well-lit Vinewood Boulevard at night—Los Santos’s Hollywood analogue—and just drive up and down absorbing the detail. The layout is the same as I remember it, but it’s like going from being short-sighted (or hungover) to having perfect vision: I’m impressed by how beautiful the lighting is, how the reflections look on cars at night, how convincing the weather effects are. This is exactly how I hoped the PC port would shape up. It makes me want to chuck my 780 in the bin and get 4K-ready immediately.
I explored a decent cross-section of the game during my demo. First, Rockstar gets me to try out a single-player heist. This one involves digging into an underground bank vault and making off with some gold by helicopter. Heists bring Franklin, Michael and Trevor together, and require that you choose crew members and do some preparation before pulling off a big job.
Pacers’ Chris Copeland and 2 Women Are Stabbed Outside Manhattan Club
A former New York Knicks forward who now plays for the Indiana Pacers was stabbed in the abdomen during an argument early Wednesday outside a club in Manhattan, the authorities said.
The player, identified by Pacers officials as Chris Copeland, 31, was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center. The injury was not considered life-threatening, the police said.
A companion of Mr. Copeland, Katrine Saltara, 28, was cut on the right arm and breast, and was also taken to Bellevue. A second woman, Catherine Somani, 23, an acquaintance of the attacker, was also slashed and was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital. Mr. Copeland and Ms. Saltara were in stable condition on Wednesday night. Ms. Somani was released.
Shevoy Bleary-Murdock, 22, was arrested and charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Officers recovered a spring-operated knife outside the club, 1 Oak, on West 17th Street in Chelsea, the police said.
As the police established the crime scene, two Atlanta Hawks players who apparently were not with Mr. Copeland were arrested and charged with interfering in the investigation.
The stabbing, which occurred just before 4 a.m., came several hours after the Hawks arrived in New York from Atlanta, where they had set a single-season franchise record for victories on Tuesday with a blowout win over the Phoenix Suns. On Wednesday night, the Hawks defeated the Nets in Brooklyn, while the Pacers beat the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
The attack rattled the Pacers as they prepared to make a late-season playoff run, fueled by the return of their star player, Paul George, from a serious leg injury on Sunday. The Wednesday night results left Indiana one game out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The police said they thought the attacker had been trying to listen to a conversation involving Mr. Copeland after he left the club, touching off the violent encounter.
The club, which opened in 2008, has become a magnet for celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kanye West, as well as professional athletes. It was a spot favored by self-professed night life aficionado J. R. Smith before the Knicks traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In a statement, a spokeswoman for 1 Oak said “the incident occurred beyond the view of our security.” Cellphone video footage obtained by TMZ Sports shows Mr. Copeland bleeding on the sidewalk, surrounded by police officers, in front of a building adjacent to 1 Oak.

"Furious 7" Had a different ending before Paul Walker Died.
Those of us who watched Furious 7 in theaters this past weekend were treated to a touching tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end.
Director James Wan and his crew used a combination of CGI, Wiz Khalifa’s "See You Again" and a montage of scenes from all the Fast and Furious films to give their brother a proper sendoff.
Though this moment brought many a tear to audiences around the world, Wan recently opened up about the ending that was originally planned prior to Walker’s tragic death.
Speaking with Collider, Wan said that the ending had originally served a much different purpose.
Speaking with Collider, Wan said that the ending had originally served a much different purpose.
"The original ending of Furious 7 was setting up, you know, the bigger world of where the Fast and Furious franchise could go into. And that’s obviously very smart of them to think so. But when the tragedy happened, all of that became irrelevant. So it did not matter anymore, all of that stuff. And to the studio’s credit, they did not push for that. They realized how important it was to make a movie that finishes and that just outright is a tribute to Paul Walker. So I give them a lot of credit for being bigger than that and going along with this ending that is the right ending to go with."
Walker was taken from the world too soon after a car accident in 2013.
The actor had already filmed the majority of his scenes, which prompted the release to be pushed out of 2014 and the studio utilizing various methods to finish production.
Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb, were enlisted to help finish his remaining scenes, and CGI was used to bring Walker back for the Furious 7 ending. If you haven’t seen it, get a tissue, because Universal released the music video for "See You Again" that features footage from the scene.

MS Dhoni will be penniless one day: Yograj Singh curses India captain
Is it an emotion, wrath or anger? Yograj Singh, father of ace cricketer Yuvraj Singh, in a remark that could trigger a major controversy and war of words, has blasted India's ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his son's exclusion from the ICC World Cup 2015 squad.
An emotional Yograj also cursed the Indian captain to be left penniless one day.
"Dhoni was nothing. He has become a God in cricket just because of media. Media has crowned him as a great which he never deserved", Yograj told a Hindi news channel.
"There was a time when he had nothing but today he sits in front of media and rips off the media persons. He laughs at media who has given him so much hype. He laughs at the Indian people who clap when he scores a run," Yograj said.
"Honestly, if I were a media person, I would have slapped Dhoni right there", Yograj said.
Yuvraj, Man of the Series in the 2011 World Cup, was one of the five senior Indian cricketers who were ignored by the selectors for the World Cup this year. Yuvraj, along with Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan, were even excluded from India's 30-man preliminary squad for the mega event.
Yuvraj's father compared Dhoni with Ramayana's mythological villain Ravana.
"Dhoni is arrogant. The way Ravana's proud came to an end, Dhoni will also suffer some day. He considers himself much above Ravana," Yuvraj's father said.
"I feel really ashamed when other cricketers come and tell me about Dhoni. Earlier, I used to think that people must be cribbing about Dhoni due to jealousy. But when the cricketers told me about him, I think I have never seen a terrible person like him ever in my life," he added.
India, who lifted the World Cup in 2011, faced an ouster in the 2015 event when they lost to Australia in the semi-finals at the SCG.
Dhoni, who played a stellar role at No. 4 position in the 2011 World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium, went to bat No. 6 this time.
Criticising Dhoni, Yograj said, "In the 2011 final, Yuvraj was going to bat but Dhoni stopped him and went to bat and became a hero. Why didn't he bat at No. 4 this time? Why did he go at No. 6? If he considers himself great, then he should have batted at No. 6 and guided India to a win against the Aussies."
Cursing Dhoni, Yograj said: "There will be a day when Dhoni will be left to beg and become penniless and would not get any favour."

Motorola Moto E (2nd gen) review: Fails to repeat the magic.
Product Review-
Motorola Moto E was quite a popular phone when it had launched last year. In fact, it was the best phone under Rs 10,000 till other phone makers started offering affordable price points. While the Moto E had been released at a time when Xiaomi was yet to debut in India, the second generation Moto E surely isn’t the only affordable device in the segment. In fact, Lenovo started the trend this year by introducing the 4G enabled A6000, and this was quickly followed by Xiaomi’s Redmi 2; both of which come at the same price point as the Motorola Moto E (2015).
The second generation Moto E has undergone some design changes as compared to its predecessor. For starters, the new Moto E has done away with a removable back cover and in its place you have a surrounding plastic band which covers the microSIM and microSD card slots. The ribbed design along the band helps with grip.
You can even add on colourful Moto E bands (Flipkart is selling 3 for Rs 999). Just like the original Moto E, the new one also feels quite sturdy. I particularly liked the rubbery feel on the rear side, which helps with giving the phone a good grip.
The Motorola logo dimple is present just beneath the 5MP camera which again comes without any LED flash unit. On the front face you only have the earpiece speaker on top which also acts as the speaker unit. The display comes with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
Unlike the original Moto E, there isn’t any speaker element at the base of the phone. The bezel on the new Moto E, specially on the top is quite large. You have the volume rocker button placed below the power/standby button on the right hand side. The microUSB charging power is at the base and the 3.5mm audio jack is on top.
Considering this is Motorola’s entry level phone, the new Moto E sports a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 pixel display. It must be considered that competition has already added on HD displays at the same budget. The phone runs Android 5.0.2 and houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC which has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz along with an Adreno 302 GPU. This is paired with 1GB of RAM. While testing the specifications on the CPU-Z utility, we were shown the SoC as Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, which is not the case. On the storage front, you get 8GB of storage of which 5.03GB is available for use. There is a 5MP rear camera without an LED flash unit and a VGA front-facing camera.
Salman hit and run case: Prosecution rejects Salman Khan’s defence of not driving car
Prosecution on Wednesday rejected Bollywood star Salman Khan’s defence that it was his driver Ashok Singh who was driving his vehicle at the time of the 2002 mishap, saying it appears to be a “brought up” witness whose contention was belated and introduced at the fag end of the trial.
Khan had submitted for the first time on Monday that Singh was at the wheel and not him, while giving his statement after evidence was closed in the case, said special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat today while making final arguments in the sessions court.
Khan has been charged with killing one person and injuring four others by ramming his vehicle into a bakery shop in suburban Bandra in the wee hours of September 28, 2002.
In his arguments, Gharat said none of the witnesses examined in the court was given this suggestion or confronted with this new piece of evidence claimed by Khan.
Gharat argued that Khan had not mentioned about his driver Ashok Singh at any stage of the trial earlier and had disclosed this only when his statement was being recorded.
At that time, the actor was also asked by the judge if he wished to examine himself. To this, he had replied in the negative. “If he (Khan) had chosen to examine himself he would have been exposed in cross-examination, Gharat further argued.
The accused had in the beginning of the trial accepted that the vehicle was owned by him and was in his possession when the mishap occurred. Even at that stage he did not disclose that his driver Ashok Singh was driving the car at the relevant time, said Gharat.
Singh had told the sessions court last month that it was he was behind the wheel, and not the actor, at the time of the accident.
The prosecution has alleged that Khan did not have driving licence and was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. Khan had denied both charges.
“It appears that he (Ashok Singh) is a ‘brought up’ witness and as such his evidence cannot be accepted”, Gharat contended.
The prosecutor said police constable Ravindra Ptil, a complainant in the case and also bodyguard of Khan, had said in his statement about three persons occupying the car — he (himself), accused Salman and his friend Kamaal.
Even Patil had not mentioned about the fourth person, i.e Ashok Singh, as claimed by the actor, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said the theory of “false implication” put up by the accused is totally ruled out because victims who were injured in the mishap had testified that they had seen Khan getting down from the driver’s seat. Besides, the complainant was accompanying Khan when he was driving the car and allegedly ran over people sleeping outside a shop.
“Both the complainant and victims are independent and impartial witnesses and their testimony should be accepted. It cannot be said that they were on inimical terms with Khan and hence they were falsely implicating him,” said Gharat.
He said the evidence of Patil, who had died during the trial, should be accepted in toto.
Referring to Khan’s claim that Patil was dozing off when the mishap occurred, the prosecutor asked, “How can that be so?. He was on night duty on that day and was accompanying the actor. He cannot sleep when he is on duty.”
The prosecutor further argued that Khan had tried to reverse the evidence that had surfaced in the trial by saying that Patil was sleeping in the car when the mishap took place.
Gharat said the victims who were injured in the mishap, had described the incident. However, there could be variations or exaggerations in their narration because perception of every person is different than the others. Even Supreme Court has laid down such variations could happen because of different perceptions of witnesses.
The prosecution assailed the defence theory that the mishap had occurred due to a mechanical fault in Khan’s Land Cruiser Lexus and also because of tyre burst.
“That is not possible because the car is a high end sport utility vehicle and has a display panel indicator which gives alerts if any defects crop up. The car is a fully automatic power-loaded one which will not take it away from the road in case of mechanical failure,” said the prosecutor.
Assuming that there was a mechanical fault in the car and the accused while driving it had not seen the display panel indicator for defects which may have crept in, then his act amounts to rash and negligence which is an offence under Motor Vehicles act, Gharat argued.
The arguments were inconclusive and would continue on April 6. The prosecution has examined more than 25 witnesses while the defence examined only one witness (apart from Salman Khan who is the accused) during the trial.
A fresh trial started after the earlier judge, a magistrate, added the charge of the ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’ which attracts a prison sentence up to ten years, and referred the case to the sessions court.
The earlier charge was ‘rash and negligent driving’ for which the maximum jail term is two years.
The prosecution examined witnesses to prove that before the mishap Salman had visited a bar with his friends, to substantiate the charge that he was drunk.
It alleged that he did not have a driving licence at the time, which he got only in 2004. However, the actor argued that the licence he got in 2004 was not the first one obtained by him.
Besides the charge of culpable homicide (section 304 part II), the actor is also facing charges of causing death of one person by negligent driving (sec 279), causing hurt to persons by act endangering personal safety (sec 337) and causing damage to property (sec 427) under the Indian Penal Code.
He is also facing charges under the Motor Vehicles Act (driving without licence), and Bombay Prohibition Act (driving after consuming liquor).
Andhra's new capital named Amaravati.
HYDERABAD: Amaravati will be the name of the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced on Wednesday.
He told reporters after a cabinet meeting that it was unanimously decided to name the new capital Amaravati. TOI had hinted at the same name in November last year.
He told reporters after a cabinet meeting that it was unanimously decided to name the new capital Amaravati. TOI had hinted at the same name in November last year.
The new capital is being built in Vijayawada-Guntur region and Amaravati, the ancient town on the banks of the Krishna river, is part of the region.
According to the sources, Naidu finalized Amaravati as the name of his upcoming capital on the rationale that in one stroke, a new modern capital can be linked to history dating back to at least 2000 years when the small town of Amaravati, which is about 32 km away from the core capital region, was a major Buddhist centre.
Naidu said the new capital would have the strength of both the 'vaastu' and auspicious name.
Naidu, who also briefed the cabinet about his visit to Singapore, said Singapore had come forward to build the capital. He said the master plan for the first phase of the capital would be ready by May 15.
The chief minister announced that the new capital would be linked with radial roads. He said a 200-km-long ring road will be built connecting the new capital with Vijayawada and Guntur.
Since Amaravati is also associated with Telugu heritage dating back to the Satavahana kingdom, Naidu felt that it would be the most appropriate name for the AP capital. It was also felt that the name Amaravati will elevate the status of the new capital and will be embraced by all Telugus, whether they are in Andhra, Telangana, elsewhere in India, or abroad.
The sources said many in the government and the TDP had suggested that the capital be named after NTR, but Naidu had shot it down.

Sachin Tendulkar to replace Duncan Fletcher as Team India's coach
Former Indian cricketer and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is all set to replace Duncan Fletcher as Team India's coach. Ending weeks of speculation over who would succeed Fletcher after World Cup, the BCCI announced the decision to give Sachin a three-year contract after a Working Committee meeting on Tuesday as no one knows the Indian team better than the legendary batsman.
It has been reliably learnt that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli played an important hand in recommending Sachin for the job. Also the board consulted former BCCI chief N Srinavasan and Team Director Ravi Shastri, before finalising Tendulkar's appointment.
Sachin is likely to join India after the IPL ends. "The contract with Sachin is for three years," BCCI said in a press release.
"After a lot of thought and consultation, I and BCCI secretary placed Sachin's name before the Working Committee, which the committee ratified," Jagmohan Dalmiya, the BCCI president, said, adding that the terms and conditions of Sachin's appointment would be the same as that of Fletcher's.
When asked about Sachin's appointment, Dhoni said Sachin's style of coaching will surely be the same as his playing days. "Hardworking, disciplined, very professionally driven and played to his utmost potential," Dhoni said. "He will surely bring the same characteristics to his coaching."
Sachin was brand ambassador for ICC at the recently concluded World Cup 2015.
A leaked BCCI email accessed by Cricketnext confirms the most exciting development in Indian cricket. To read the full text of the e-mail go to http://j.mp/SachinEmail
WhatsApp voice calling now available to all Android users, no invite necessary
New Delhi: The latest version of the WhatsApp Messenger app now available for downoad on Google Play includes the much discussed WhatsApp Calling feature activated by default. Users no longer will need to receive a WhatsApp call from a friend to have the feature activated.
Describing what's new in the app, WhatsApp's Google Play page says, "WhatsApp Calling: Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they're in another country. WhatsApp calls use your phone's Internet connection rather than your cellular plan's voice minutes. Data charges may apply"
Until now, the feature was invite-only and saw a limited rollout. Although there have been reports that the feature is working with the previous version of the app, it is suggested that you update the app to get the call tab.
You will be required to move to your phone's regular calling feature to place calls over the cellular network.
The feature is currently only limited to Android users. However, co-founder Brian Acton recently announced at the Facebook f8 conference that the voice-calling feature will be rolled out to iOS devices in a couple of weeks.
